Bookings

To request measurement time send a request to Scientific Applications Manager along with the COSHH form as required

For the E580 and E680 pulsed instruments, please note that toward the end of each month there is a timetable meeting for the following month, you are strongly encouraged to attend.  The daily booking change-over time is 9:00 am.  Please allow about 30 min. of grace period.  For deviations from the E580 or E680 booking schedule you are required to notify the Scientific Applications Manager as soon as possible.  Users must be aware of the bookings scheduled to occur before and after theirs.

For X-band CW-EPR, read this user document (link). Upon gaining the required level of EPR training, users of the EMXmicro are encouraged to sign up for their own time, up to two weeks in advance, n.b. time restrictions below.  For hourly bookings made for the same day as reservations, send an e-mail to the Scientific Applications Manager or come speak to them before starting -- the spectrometer might undergoing tests & maintenance during this time.  Short-notice/duration measurements might also be possible by contacting someone with a multi-day block reservation.  This could be early in the morning, in a pause of their measurements in the daytime, lunch time, or an evening.  However, note unbooked evening times may be given priority to those needing more time to complete additional measurements based on afternoons with low-temperature or custom setups (LASER / LAMP, SEESR, E-field, ODMR, EDMR, etc.).  For deviations from the hourly EMX booking schedule, such as an early finish and hence cancellation for the whole or part of a remainder of a booking, you shall notify the Scientific Applications Manager by e-mail and the subsequent two users.  If you are struggling to get time and/or observe that a user has failed to start their reserved instrument booking on time, please ask the Scientific Applications Manager to help arrange accommodations.  There are further EMXmicro time restrictions summarised as follows.
    Don’t book more than 2 weeks in advanced, unless you have specific permission from the Scientific Applications Manager.
    Fridays are a reserved day for room-temperature, walk-up users (no more than two hours booked, or longer if no one else is booked on the day).  However, if at 3 pm on Thursday, there are no short bookings placed for the following Friday, that day will become available for an all-day booking.
    A single multi-day booking will not consist of more than 3 weekdays (Monday-Thursday) but may include Saturday & Sunday, for a 5 day continuous run.
    In a 2 week period a single person may book no more than 4 weekdays.

Following booking schedule alterations (all the EMX rules above), the final Instrument Booking Schedule should represent the time that the spectrometer was used and who was using it, for recharge processes according to hours (EMXmicro) and days (E580 & E680).  For the description section of the EMX booking, please include on line 1) Principle Investigator; line 2) Oxford Department -- enter External Academic or Industry if you are not from Oxford; line 3) grant account with small research facility (SRF) funding; and lines 4+) details about your experiment, cryogens, and accessory equipment.  Below is an example:
